Carly worked as a disability support worker for more than ten years prior to moving into support coordination and had a front seat to the rollout of the NDIS. She has witnessed the many positive impacts NDIS has had on the lives of Australians with disabilities but also has a strong understanding of the challenges involved in trying to understand and navigate the complex, complicated, and constantly changing landscape that is the NDIS. Carly works with plan and self managed NDIS participants who are funded for support coordination and live within the Gold Coast region. She also has some clients in Northern NSW, some in Brisbane, and currently has some flexibility to work with people outside of this area, if required. Depending on your individual goals, plan objectives and aspirations you may receive funding for these supports in your plan. Cosmos care offers a variety of accommodation such as... SUPPORTED INDEPENDENT LIVING (SIL) Supported Independent Living (SIL) is when people with disabilities receive support, usually 24/7, to help each person live as independently as possible. This can sometimes be a group of people sharing a home together, or one person receiving support in their own home. Many people with disabilities are unable to live on their own or with their family, and therefore group or shared accommodation allows people to receive day-to-day support whilst living in a suitable home. It’s important for everyone in the household to get along, so like-minded housemates can be matched based on compatibility and shared hobbies and interests. Under the NDIS, SIL means that between two and seven people can share a home, each person with their own private bedroom. What support is available in a SIL home? Support is usually available 24/7 and can include: Help to manage money and household budgeting Assistance with cooking Assistance with cleaning and laundry Help to catch public transport to visit friends and family Personal care such as showering and dressing Support with grocery shopping Assistance with daily skills training Promote participation in household and community activities MEDIUM TERM ACCOMMODATION (MTA) MTA is available for those who require temporary transitional housing while they wait for their more permanent home to become ready or available to use. It could be in following circumstances: As bridging accommodation for younger people who are at risk of being admitted (or who want to leave) an aged care home Participants who are ready to leave hospitals but are waiting for home modifications, assisted technology or support equipment to be placed in their home. Those who are waiting for a vacancy or for a build to be completed. SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION (STA) Short-term Accommodation (STA) refers to supports previously referred to as ‘respite’. STA describes supports provided for a limited period of time, typically delivered in a residential house, unit or flat. In some instances, the provider might book an apartment at a hotel. It can be provided as additional support in your own home by some organizations. Some organizations will only provide STA to adults, others only to children, some offer services to both. What does STA include? Specialised around the clock support staff Medications and personal care Accessible environment Meals Social activities and Overnight and short stays

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do NDIS Services providers cost in New South Wales?

NDIS Services rates in New South Wales follow the NDIS Price Guide limits. Costs vary based on the type of support, time of service (standard hours, evenings, weekends), worker qualifications, and travel requirements. Plan-managed and self-managed participants have greater flexibility in choosing providers and negotiating rates.

What's the difference between registered and unregistered NDIS providers?

NDIS registered providers have met quality and safety standards set by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Agency-managed participants must use registered providers. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can choose either registered or unregistered providers, giving more flexibility in their choices.

Can I change my NDIS Services provider if it's not working out?

Yes, you have the right to change providers at any time. Review your service agreement for notice periods and discuss any concerns with your provider first. If you're unhappy with the service, you can end the agreement and find a new provider that better meets your needs.

How do I find NDIS Services providers who speak my language?

Use the Language filter at the top of this page to find providers offering support in your preferred language. New South Wales has providers available in many languages including Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Greek, Italian, and more. You can also specify language requirements when contacting providers directly.

What qualifications should NDIS Services providers have?

All NDIS workers must have a valid NDIS Worker Screening Check. Many hold qualifications like Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, or relevant allied health degrees. Specialist providers may have additional training in specific disability types. Always ask providers about their qualifications and experience.
