Tenma Health Care Services (THCS) is an NDIS registered provider and DVA approved community nursing service headquartered in Cairns, Queensland, supporting participants and veterans across North and Far North Queensland from Townsville through to Cairns. The organisation was established during the COVID-19 pandemic by a qualified mental health nurse to address service gaps for high-intensity mental health clients requiring complex care. The team provides person-centred healthcare and support tailored to each person's needs, goals and circumstances, spanning NDIS supports, DVA Community Nursing and Australian Government funded home care, with a stated commitment to dignity, respect and inclusivity.
Clinical services are delivered by registered nurses and cover general nursing care, medication management, continence assessments and catheter care, chronic disease, diabetes and epilepsy management, pressure area care, palliative care and pain management, vital sign monitoring, stoma and fistular care, wound care management and case management. Mental health nursing includes therapeutic group programs such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, addiction group therapy, relapse prevention and sleep hygiene, alongside drug and alcohol support.
High-intensity support is available for participants with complex care needs, including people with mental health concerns or forensic backgrounds, focusing on safety, dignity, stability and quality of life through emotional regulation and behavioural support strategies. Daily living supports cover in-home cleaning, meal planning and cooking, laundry, garden maintenance, general household duties, grocery shopping, personal care such as showering, dressing and toileting, medication management, travel and transport assistance, and support to take part in community, social and recreational activities.
Supported Independent Living and accommodation and tenancy assistance help participants live more independently, while development of daily living and life skills builds confidence with money handling, budgeting and household tasks. Therapeutic gardening uses horticultural therapy to support wellbeing, confidence and social inclusion. Referrals are accepted from participants, families, carers and support coordinators through the website, and the team is available seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm.
