HIreup it is aweful!!! unbelievable!!!. Found a worker who contacted me. I have my own way to interview workers that involves two hours phone interview to discuss the job and ensure that they are well informed about me and what the job, then I proceed to a meet and greet of 15 minmutes to half an hour to ensure that get to see what we talked about on the phone interview, if both of us are still willing and happy, I previously arrange a shift immediately and soon after the meeting and greet and I mean the same day. for example if we have the meet and greet is between 9am and 9.30am, and we are both happy, the shift starts at 9.30am for a minimum of 2 hours, but could be more if that is needed. I make sure that the workers agree to that. The reasons why are about not wasting any time as I need to move on if it does not work. And for them too. I have checked with NDIS and they said it is fine that as long as we both agree and I am not here to force anybody into anything. So, that is what I did when I first went to hire the first time with hire. I put an add and a worker responded I followed the process as explained above and after the phone interview, she agreed to a meet and greet and a shift soon after on the same day. Then she texted me about the meet and greet only. I don't do meet and greets only. As that is too much waste of time. So, I could not get hold of her and cold hireup to see what happened as I knew she was going to call them to set the meet and greet and the shift as she was a first timer with hireup too. When I talked to one of their customer service staff, he was told me he was concerned about having a meet and greet and a shift on the same day. Asking to explain and arguing about it. Like if I was trying to force the worker. And I said I don't force anybody but it is just the way I do the selection of workers as I want to find the right workers. But like he did not like it, I don't know why and question my reasons. I said it is not their business to question the way I select and manage the staff. That was the end of the conversation. Then, when I talked to the worker, she told me that HIreup was trying to talk her out of the job, and to find other clients. The worker answered back and said why do they care? that is they a like the job to be and she had no problems with that. Eventually, when I called to discuss how is it that you have these discriminating sort of ways, the senior person Cathy would not let me explain in detail my way to handle the hiring of worker and ask why. Cathy kept constantly interrupting me and not let me finish. And refuse to continue explaining. They are awful!!!! Who do they think they are!!! When talking about this, already people were making some bad comments about Hireup. What a bunch of bigots!!!!. No wonder why they don't have space to post on their facebook page. Otherwise, they would have lots of people putting their bad experiences here. I found a way and I will find a place to put a review.

We have been using HireUp for support workers for my son for almost one year now. My son has a profound learning disability and quite high needs, and must be supervised at all times. Through the year, we have had 8 different carers come into our home. And they have all been great. And with the online format, it is so easy to search, find, communicate with and book support workers. I highly recommend this service.

I've been quite disappointed in a few things with Hireup. I have had people say they can do things, only to get out with and discover they have no idea. I had one person let me go during going a hill (I'm in a manual chair) when they had been told not to do so. I ended up having to grab the wheels really hard a do a half spin out to avoid being hit by a car. Several cars interiors have had food on the floor, seats not clean and nappies. When I called to complain about the car incident. They were rather nonchalant about it. Not impressed.

We have had a great experience with HireUp. It was easy to post a job and within an hour we had a number of people contact us to express their interest. We met with the first person who responded and she is fantastic. She has been working with us for several months now and we are really happy with both the person, and how easy it is to approve shifts and pay invoices all online. Highly recommend.

Review Update Hire Up have improved their registration process and it only takes a few days instead of a few weeks to process new applications for clients needing support. First review – 4 Star May 1, 2018 I've found some wonderful support workers through Hireup. It's great to be able to contact someone in my local area and speak to them about what help they can give us. I get to meet interesting people and Hireup does all the administration and security checks. The rates are cheaper than the NDIS price list which means our limited funded hours go a lot further than the original plan. Setting up the account (on my side)took longer than the website implied but I figured it all out in the end. The Hireup admin side took a couple of weeks to set up but it can be done faster if you ring the office number. I like the flexibility of being able to choose my own support workers and have multiple ways to contact them.

We self manage and have been for awhile. We use HireUp to add carers to our pool. They are useful if you don't want the burden of admin + insurance. What I don't like is weekly invoices + short period to pay invoices – it adds admin.

Response from Hireup

Thanks for sharing your feedback, Lisa. We're glad you're enjoying Hireup so far, and will pass your feedback about weekly invoices on to our team. If you ever have any more questions or would like to provide more feedback, feel free to contact us anytime on [phone hidden] or hello@hireup.com.au Thank you!

I am a support worker with HireUp. I think the guy that set up HireUp had a really good framework and the idea to the give the control back to the families with self management is a really good one. Families are able to do it at a cheaper cost than the agencies so that the families could benefit more. A specific package that gives you 80 support hours somewhere else could give you 120 hours with HireUp. Once you sus out their system it's so easy to organise my shifts. HireUp need a Canberra office so we can claim leave through the long service authority. They are still a Sydney-based business and are still looking into it. I can do this with the other Canberra-based agency I work for. They do have people come down regularly for meet and greets and workshops but they could do more of these for both clients and staff. You don't get to meet other staff very regularly and hear other experiences. There may be something you could improve on or something you shouldn't be doing that you might not know about. HireUp need more social outings as the other support workers are very open and friendly when you get to meet them in person.

Response from Hireup

Hi Jamie, Thanks for your feedback! We're definitely working towards having more events and face-to-face opportunities in and around Canberra. As our events team grows, we'd love to have more of an ACT presence. In the meantime, all our events (some are webinars so you can tune in from anyway) are listed on our Facebook events page. It is possible to claim long service leave with the ACT Long Service Leave Authority, as Hireup is a registered employer. Once Hireup lodges each return, the Authority then reaches out by post or email to each support worker named in the return to ask them to register themselves. If you'd like some more info on this, or to check your status, contact us on [phone hidden] or hello@hireup.com.au Thanks!

I work for HireUp. You put a posting up and I can go read about you so I get a sense of what you need. I like that we agree on the job, and it's done. I log in, do the job and I get sent an invoice. I like that there are few steps. For my clients with limited mobility, they use HireUp because the process is more seamless and there's less to type.

We use HireUp for carers for my sisters. HireUp is good but very often the workers aren't trained properly. A lot of the time the workers just end up being babysitters but the flexibility of the system is good. More training for workers is needed.

I love the diversity of the people to choose from. There are so many networks to tap into, for example students who are studying occupational therapy, or people in their 70s who were teachers. I love all their different skills. The internet platform is really easy to use, to set up my son’s profile and match with people. I like that they’re linked in with Fighting Chance and Jigsaw too because it gives us other options and I like their values that they also had someone in their family with disability.

My support coordinator contacted them last year but didn't get a response. I have dyslexia so it's hard to use the site. It's confusing that they're providing a portal for matching rather than an actual service. It wasn't clear that I still had to make my own team of workers. It would be good to have the right information when I first get to the website in a way that I can understand it.

I find it hard to use the platform and to match. People said yes but then they said no because it wasn't convenient for them to do the work. It might be better in the future when they have more workers. It's a good idea in theory but I prefer to know who I'm dealing with in person.

Great system that gains good traction for families. Really good flexibility and creative developmental support. Good admin staff who can support far well. Wonderful entrepreneurial approach and supplementary support like popups. I would like a better meet up system to help me choose good workers.

Great online platform with an ever increasing database of support workers. We mostly directly hire our own staff but have found Hireup really useful when going away on holidays or for short term staff gaps. Many support workers on the database don't actually have a whole lot of availability though and just want the occasional shift to fit in with other work &/or studies. Fabulous philosophy and genuine understanding of people with disabilities and their families. I think their weekend and holidays rates are a bit too steep. The gap between what the worker is paid & what the client pays should be the same regardless of the day of the week rather than a %. I would be more inclined to use them if this was changed.

The idea of the service is great, and once workers are set up its effective. However, getting a carer that I have located and vetted who meets all the requirements, approved, is a very lengthy and disappointing process.
