Cherry Tree Cooks is a family-run business in Western Sydney that teaches people with autism and intellectual disabilities how to cook in a safe, supportive and kind environment. Its beginner-friendly cooking classes are offered as one-to-one private sessions or in groups, with all ingredients and utensils provided, and are hands-on so that everybody cooks. Participants learn knife handling, reading and following recipes, safe use of cooking utensils, the six essential nutrients and the five food groups, with the aim of preparing healthy meals for themselves, gaining independence and building skills that could lead to job opportunities.
Cherry Tree Cooks also provides introductory food safety training for organisations and barista-style coffee training for small groups.
