Thank you Mind, two years ago I could not leave my house not even to get mail out of the letterbox. After the support that I got from my worker I am finally getting there.Yesterday I went to the supermarket on my own for the first time in more years than I would like to admit. Thank you again to my support worker for showing me that I can control my mental illness not my mental illness control me.

I used Mind for four years after many not so good experiences with other services. I was empowered to address my recovery which has set the foundation for becoming a member of the community after many year of isolation. Even though it took a long time my worker was happy to work at my pace. I highly recommend Mind as a client centered service provider.

They mostly try to be carer and family inclusive and have staff training sessions which focus on this aspect of care. Would like to see family and carer inclusive be a way that every Mind site operates.

I think they’re great, they are really trying to provide much better sup‐port to carers. Previously, carers were excluded and judges by the system. It’s so good to see Mind wanting carers involved and wanting to do better things with carers and consumers. They’ve persisted with supporting and listening and enhancing their approach to services at a senior level. With the NDIS coming, they are having strategy meetings with consumers, carers, and Mind staff to make sure their services are well developed. I’ve also seen them make changes whenever needed.

I’ve found them very helpful, they listened to me and took on board what i said, gave me good resources and reminded me to look after myself. They helped me find other supports for my kids so I could have time to look after myself. They were also really open to suggestions on how they could improve. They listen to carers more, they have carer panels and are teaching staff to be more carer aware, not just aware of the clients, because the carer is with them all the time. I’ve even been invited to speak on a panel to help new workers hear more about the carer journey.

I’ve used their services as a consumer and carer. Some of the staff are very caring, others are young and inexperienced and straight out of university (without mental health qualifications). I would suggest that staff in residential settings in particular need to be experienced in mental health and to have a diploma in mental health as a minimum. Having mature staff (in years)as well. Sometimes it feels that there is a lot of administration, however in the last four years as a carer, Mind are becoming more responsive and are improving a lot in staffing. As a consumer, not so much.

I’m a carer for my son and I get help from Mind. They look after me as a carer, they provided art classes, writing for just carers. We connected well and could express ourselves with support. This has unfortunately been cut now which is disappointing.
