My name is Joel. I am passionate about making a genuine difference in people's lives, whether that be through assisting clients with day-to-day social activities like shopping and outings, as well as assisting clients to reach specific special goals such as learning to use technology, joining interest groups, learning English, mastering a new recipe or tidying up their home. I always put my client's interests first, free of judgment, and strive to assist them in breaking down barriers that they might have come up against.
I love having a laugh and having a positive outlook on life. I enjoy getting to know new people learning about their interests and circumstances and then working alongside them to determine goals we can work on together. I undertake research into existing programs in local council areas, such as libraries, neighbourhood houses, and galleries to make the most of what’s on offer in the community whether that be conversation cafes, art classes, craft groups, walking and gardening clubs.
I have over 10 years of experience working in recreation, lifestyle and leisure in the care sector. My substantive roles have been in traditional not-for-profit, as well as the homeless support services sector, within high-care facilities, low-care accommodation and in-home community settings. I find support work incredibly rewarding and feel that it is a privilege to work with people in this capacity.
