The Department of Human Services is a South Australian Government department that combines service delivery, funding and policy work across disability, child and family support, ageing, women's services, community programs and support for non-government organisations. Its disability and specialist support area provides allied health services such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy and dietetics, specialist behaviour support, community nursing in the home, disability aged care support work, assistive technology and equipment, and specialist disability accommodation in metropolitan and regional areas.
It also runs a Transition to Home program offering short-term housing for eligible NDIS participants leaving hospital, and an interpreting and translating service covering most community and commercial languages used in the state. The department holds lead responsibility for disability, child safety, domestic and family violence, screening and youth justice matters, and administers grants and concessions.
