I access Civic for both support coordination for NDIS planning and respite care for my foster son. I really like our support coordinator's professionalism, we found her by accident through a brochure at the school and she has been incredibly helpful. Navigating the NDIS debacle has been clunky and our support coordinator is helping us to navigate through our first plan for us. She irons out some of the massive faults in the system for us - it's been a blessing. She's gone above and beyond and I wouldn't want that to change. I recently went to an info sessions for post school options and although what they have on offer at Civic may be too advanced for my son, I sincerely love the passion that the staff have for their service. The staff took time to clarify and explain everything to us even though not many people attended the event. One staff member stayed even back past the finish time to talk to me. I'm very appreciative that the Civic's children respite services will segue into adult respite, which is absolutely amazing. Overall, my contact with Civic has been really positive. My foster son who cannot read recognises the Civic logo via the 'V' peace sign and knows the logo when he sees it on buses. There has been one issue when my son was accidentally given the wrong dose of medication while at respite and had a fall. The follow up from staff was very good and they constantly kept in touch with me by phone about what was happening. My foster son is non verbal and I asked for an incident report but this was denied. As the carer of someone nonverbal I really need these bits of information to ensure the safety of my foster son and see if he needed further medical care. It is important for me to have this information so that I can explain so someone what happened to him and ensure the safety of my foster son and my own safety too. I have to be vigilant as a carer so that if someone questions me I can give them the right information.
