This funding can be used to offer much-needed respite to both you and your carers, giving them a break from their caregiving responsibilities. A short stay away from home can offer you the opportunity to try new experiences, make new friends, and develop valuable skills, all while providing your carers with the chance to recharge.  For children under the age of 18 we offer early childhood therapeutic supports included in our respite stay, with specialised behavioural therapist, early childhood speech and occupational therapy as well as holiday and day programs to support children through their stay and promote independence, safety and improve their overall well-being. I started in 2006 for DHS working as a casual for 4 years, gaining valuable experience in the disability sector working with all diverse disabilities and learning to adapt to different challenges and situations. After the 4 years i moved permenantly to the one house for the next 11 years, developing relationships and learning how to really understand the needs of someone I care for.
