CODA Auslan Services

Advocacy and Peer Support

From the provider: CODA Auslan Services is a business run by Jade, a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult) who grew up in the deaf community and experienced first hand the unjust treatment and daily challenges that her deaf and hard-of-hearing friends and family faced every day. Despite the integration of the deaf community into the NDIS, the support available to help understand and properly navigate the NDIS planning process was severely lacking. This resulted in the ubiquitous occurrences of members of the deaf community not receiving sufficient funding to support their lifestyle and needs. Since 2020, there has been a rise by 400% in AAT (Administrative Appeals Tribunal) applications to review insufficient funding for interpreters or assistive technologies. There is also a near complete lack of advocacy groups for the deaf community to help them navigate this system. We don't find this acceptable. So we have decided to use our skills and our knowledge of the deaf community and the legal sector to assist the deaf community with preparing and presenting their updated needs and goals during a plan review, and helping those who were wrongfully denied funding appeal the decision. Orli & Co

Support Coordination, Advocacy and Peer Support, Training

From the provider: At Orli & Co we do things differently and we don’t just say it. Orli & Co was founded by a highly experienced support coordinator, started in the NDIS in 2013, who was diagnosed with ADHD and knew something had to change - Sarah implemented a survey that captures what’s going on for you, making it clear what the issues are and making it easy to tell if we are the right fit - that matters, in fact it’s everything, we don’t promise the world because no one can deliver it, instead we tell you what your options are and then it’s up to you. At Orli & Co we take pride in our knowledge, experience and strategic thinking - we understand how it works, saw the gaps and decided to do something about it. Sarah reviews evidence prior to reassessment, access request, ART and variation submissions, we began to notice the evidence wasn’t being presented cohesively, not structured in a way that it will get read, recommendations that are causing escalation and pages of pages clinical justification that barely made sense and the lengths of the reports got longer and the outcomes weren’t better. Sarah has always presented evidence based reporting, based on the functioning capacity and sought out allied health professionals to learn - she understands clinical evidence, reporting and her coordination background means she’s attended hundreds of planning meetings with results that speak for themselves Sarah started at the beginning of the scheme, navigating every single change and understands through genuine lived experience, stands up for what’s right and knows the legislation - she read it and isn’t afraid to use it. We offer reassessment support, evidence review and preparation, 1:1 workshops on what to do with no coordination, support coordination and support in general. If your looking for an organisation where you aren’t a number, you will be heard and only taken on board if we can really help you - reach out.

From the provider: At shadow care Pty Ltd we work on a different level of care to most other care providers, we do not believe that one size fits all when it comes to the care and support of an individual and their family. As part of our administrative role, we take great pride in working closely both with the participants and our support workers. We carry out a full analysis of the participants’ needs and ensure we find a support worker that can meet all of the participant’s individual requirements. It is our duty to provide a support worker who is not only capable but dedicated to ensuring the participant and their family get the best available care and support. Shadow care Pty Ltd also takes into consideration any individual care plans which need to be drawn up, and as part of our administration role, we will ensure this is adhered to. In the case of a participant being sick or having an injury, our qualified support workers will be advised, and having such skilled carers means we are already prepared for such an event. Shadow care Pty Ltd offers a wide range of services including household tasks, community nursing, personal care, accommodation support and assist/travel. This means you have a full service in one place, and won’t have to search for a specific area of support if the need arises.
