CODA Auslan Services

Advocacy and Peer Support

From the provider: CODA Auslan Services is a business run by Jade, a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult) who grew up in the deaf community and experienced first hand the unjust treatment and daily challenges that her deaf and hard-of-hearing friends and family faced every day. Despite the integration of the deaf community into the NDIS, the support available to help understand and properly navigate the NDIS planning process was severely lacking. This resulted in the ubiquitous occurrences of members of the deaf community not receiving sufficient funding to support their lifestyle and needs. Since 2020, there has been a rise by 400% in AAT (Administrative Appeals Tribunal) applications to review insufficient funding for interpreters or assistive technologies. There is also a near complete lack of advocacy groups for the deaf community to help them navigate this system. We don't find this acceptable. So we have decided to use our skills and our knowledge of the deaf community and the legal sector to assist the deaf community with preparing and presenting their updated needs and goals during a plan review, and helping those who were wrongfully denied funding appeal the decision. We are passionate about assisting people to get the maximum benefit out of their NDIS funding packages.   Currently Conservation Hearts Support Coordination is run as a sole trader ABN business by experienced support coordinator Carly Wilson. Carly worked as a disability support worker for more than ten years prior to moving into support coordination and had a front seat to the rollout of the NDIS. She has witnessed the many positive impacts NDIS has had on the lives of Australians with disabilities but also has a strong understanding of the challenges involved in trying to understand and navigate the complex, complicated, and constantly changing landscape that is the NDIS. Carly works with plan and self managed NDIS participants who are funded for support coordination and live within the Gold Coast region. She also has some clients in Northern NSW, some in Brisbane, and currently has some flexibility to work with people outside of this area, if required. What Services Do NDIS Services Providers Offer?

Providers in South Australia offer diverse services tailored to individual NDIS plans. Common support categories include:

  • Daily Living Assistance: Help with personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, and medication management
  • Community Participation: Support to attend social activities, shopping trips, recreational outings, and community events

  • Therapeutic Support: Access to allied health professionals including OTs, psychologists, and speech therapists

Choosing the Right Provider

Finding the right provider is essential for achieving your NDIS goals. Consider these factors:

Experience & Qualifications

Look for providers with relevant experience in your specific support needs and appropriate certifications.

Cultural & Language Fit

South Australia's diverse community means you can find providers who speak your language and understand your cultural background.

Availability & Flexibility

Ensure the provider can accommodate your preferred schedule, whether weekdays, weekends, or evenings.

NDIS Registration Status

NDIS registered providers meet quality and safety standards. Self-managed participants can also choose unregistered providers.

NDIS Funding for NDIS Services

Services are typically funded under the Core Supports or Capacity Building budget categories in your NDIS plan. Costs vary based on:

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do NDIS Services providers cost in South Australia?

NDIS Services rates in South Australia follow the NDIS Price Guide limits. Costs vary based on the type of support, time of service (standard hours, evenings, weekends), worker qualifications, and travel requirements. Plan-managed and self-managed participants have greater flexibility in choosing providers and negotiating rates.

What's the difference between registered and unregistered NDIS providers?

NDIS registered providers have met quality and safety standards set by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Agency-managed participants must use registered providers. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can choose either registered or unregistered providers, giving more flexibility in their choices.

Can I change my NDIS Services provider if it's not working out?

Yes, you have the right to change providers at any time. Review your service agreement for notice periods and discuss any concerns with your provider first. If you're unhappy with the service, you can end the agreement and find a new provider that better meets your needs.

How do I find NDIS Services providers who speak my language?

Use the Language filter at the top of this page to find providers offering support in your preferred language. South Australia has providers available in many languages including Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Greek, Italian, and more. You can also specify language requirements when contacting providers directly.

What qualifications should NDIS Services providers have?

All NDIS workers must have a valid NDIS Worker Screening Check. Many hold qualifications like Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, or relevant allied health degrees. Specialist providers may have additional training in specific disability types. Always ask providers about their qualifications and experience.
