National PBS exists to inspire purpose and empowerment for individuals within their community. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred, evidence-based approach aimed at improving the quality of life and reducing challenging behaviours in individuals with various needs, including those with developmental disabilities, ASD, and mental health issues. It's designed to foster a better understanding of behaviour and its underlying causes, and to promote adaptive behaviours and skills.
Our Behaviour Support Practitioners through the use of PBS encourage replacing behaviours of concern with more positive behaviours with the goal of gradually diminishing or eventually eradicating the challenging behaviour. We are a team of AHPRA-Registered Psychologist, Provisional Psychologists and Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners who use an evidence-based approach to understand Behaviours of Concern and their underlying causes. We will create individualised Behaviour Support plan that builds the bridge to an improved quality of life for the participant, family and supports.
Once the behaviour support plan has been approved, we ensure that all family, care givers and staff are provided training on how to implement the strategies in the behaviour support plan. We continue to communicate with the participant and their team by following up with regular monitoring and data collection to track behaviours, allowing us to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies.
