HOPES Incorporated (Housing Options Providing Extra Support) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a supported, independent community living option for people living with acquired brain injury and/or neurological disabilities in Tasmania. It grew from an accommodation working party formed in the early 1990s to address supported accommodation problems faced by younger adults with acquired brain injury, and became an incorporated body in 1997, committed to creating appropriate supported accommodation, transition and respite options for younger Tasmanians up to 65 years of age.
Its first co-operative community, Laetare Court at Moonah, was established in 2010 and comprises 13 independent living units plus a community house. Residents meet monthly, take turns chairing meetings, share day-to-day responsibilities and plan their own activities. HOPES does not directly employ personal staff, so residents organise their own support providers and workers, with support from HOPES if required.
