Who we are: A small team of passionate support workers with backgrounds in allied health, education, disability and employment sectors on the Gold Coast. We specialise in working with youth and young adults living with psychosocial, mental health and neuro-developmental disorders. We provide both individual and group based support. Our individual mentoring focuses on social and emotional capacity building using various tools and programs to assist young people in building capacity to reach their goals.
Participants may also choose to engage with our mentors for less formal support such as access to community, social and recreational activities. Our group based supports range from targeted social, emotional, life and living skill development through to inclusive social hangout groups. We also provide bespoke supports and programs focusing on early intervention strategies, social and emotional skill development and ongoing supports for young people and families.
Our aim is to support positive engagement or re-engagement with family, friends, communities, schools and employment aligned with a participant’s goals. What services do we provide? Mentoring Our mentors provide positive guidance and support to young people facing challenges in their lives. Our unique approach empowers young people to achieve positive outcomes and work towards the life they want to live. We specialise in working with at-risk youth and young people living with a disability or mental illness.
Social and Community Participation We value the importance of community and connection. Whether it’s socialising with friends, participating in your favourite hobby or sport, getting out and about, volunteering or learning something new, we support you to engage with activities that are meaningful to you. Group programs Our fun and inclusive programs for young people promote social interaction and skill development. Our programs can be tailored for small or large groups and can include life and living skills, art, drama, digital literacy, tech-free gaming, recreation activities, eco and adventure-based activities.
Connect and Thrive! Programs (SEL) Our Connect and Thrive Programs are targeted social and emotional learning (SEL) for young people. SEL empowers young people with the tools to be happy in themselves, relate well to others, create positive relationships and feel in control of their lives. Our Connect and Thrive! programs provide opportunities to develop and practice new skills in self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making in a safe and inclusive environment.
School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) Are you a school leaver or about to finish school? Unsure what’s next? School Leaver Employment Support (SLES) is a personalised approach to help you develop the capability and confidence to transition from school into employment. We focus on your interests, abilities and goals to plan a pathway to inclusive employment with a strong focus on capacity building and “test and try” experiences. 2022 - Group Programs GenNow’s social groups and capacity building programs assist young people living with a disability to build capacity to engage in experiences and opportunities that increase their purpose, connection and fulfilment in life.
Group programs include: The Hangout Space The Hangout Space is a safe and inclusive social space for youth and young adults to hang out, make new friends and engage in fun and inclusive activities. It is a space to develop new skills and explore areas of interest with other like minded people. Programs run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm. PEERS Social Skills for Young Adults PEERS for Young Adults is an 8-week evidence based social skill intervention that supports and assists young people and young adults to build skills to develop and maintain friendships and engage confidently in social settings such as the workplace, groups, clubs or other social activities.
Register now for our February 2022 intake. Relationships and Dating Relationships and Dating is an 8-week program that teaches young adults all there is to know about romantic relationships. We cover topics from how to develop a romantic relationship and when to know your ready to communication skills, the do’s and don’ts of dating, personal safety, rights and respectful relationships. Gel Blast Battalion The Gel Blast Battalion is a social group that meets on the second Saturday of each month and alternate Sundays to participate in gel blasting activities at the NukeTown GC complex.
The program is a fun and inclusive way for participants to get outdoors, meet new people, exercise and engage in a fun and inclusive activity. Programs run from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Club Create Club Create provides an opportunity for youth and young adults to celebrate their creativity in a safe and inclusive environment. Participants are supported to develop, design and complete their own creative projects from drawing and painting, crafting, sewing and dressmaking to music, theatre and performing arts.
Programs run on Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Register your interest for our 2022 group intake. How we deliver: Our individual supports are home or community-based and our Group Programs are Centre based located in Nerang St in Southport. Who and where? We service the Gold Coast Region from Coolangatta to Upper Coomera. Our primary demographic of participants are youth (13-18 years old) and young adults 18-30 years old) living with a psycho-social, mental health or neuro-developmental disorders.
